Worth a look inside anyway I'd think.

Still no box yet. The scrap man didn't get it out of the car in time. Hopefully next week

Finally(!) got hold of an NG3 box and associated parts on Saturday. Drove to Cromer to get it on Saturday.
I told the breaker guy (small scale, works from his house) that if he gets any more I'll have the gearboxes, or I know people who will. I paid £175 including the clutch, flywheel, starter, linkage, etc. I know I won't use some of those bits, but it's useful to have them for fitting and measuring up. I think the next ones might be a bit more, as he's twigged that they're sought after now.
However, even if he wants £250 for one in future, that still seems like good value to me.

An absolute bargain. As you say, even £250 isn't bad these days for an NG3.

No progress on me getting one locally around here though, but at least I've bought a proper Renault manual for one !

Does anyone know if the Fuego Haynes manual has much info on the gearbox? They seem to be available on ebay fairly cheaply.

The Renault manual is available on lotus-europa.com here (http://lotus-europa.com/manuals/). Unfortunately, it isn't searchable and it doesn't give torque values. If you get the Haynes manual, let us know if it's any good.

BDA,
By chance I have the Renault PDF (from the Lotus Europa website) open on my desktop, it does have some torque values in it.  They aren't listed in a chart, but are shown in some of the diagrams in "m da N"  or newton meters.  I spent a few hours this weekend messing around with the shift linkage at the gearbox end for my car, hence the manual being up on my screen.

Hi Roddy. Maybe I missed it. If I remember, the reason I came to that conclusion is I was looking for the torque value for the secondary shaft nut. Richard (at Banks) gave me a torque value and I think I misplaced it so I was looking to see if my memory was correct. Luckily, I found it (120 ft-lbs), but I don't think I ever found it in the manual. On page 20, it says to "torque tighten it using 'C' wrench" but I don't think I ever found where the torque value was.

My bad, m. da N is Deca Newton Meters.  On page 15 on the section drawing of the NG3 the secondary shaft nut is shown as having 15 (along with Loctite) which is 110.63 lb ft.

Well that was my problem. It was hidden on a page that was cryptically titled "SECTIONAL VIEW and TIGHTENING TORQUES in m. da N"!  :FUNNY:

Then my only criticism is that it isn't searchable. On the other hand, the price is right!

Just bought a Renault Fuego Haynes manual, as it has a good gearbox section in it. 7 quid including postage :D
