Ignition wiring
« on: Monday,May 02, 2016, 11:16:43 AM »
I've started tracing the wiring and I'm a bit confused.  Please see the photo attached.  What it the yellow circle  that the WB wire goes to.  And what is the carb that the W wire goes to please.

I think its the distributor, though I'm not too familiar with the Renault distributor.  On a Lucas 23/25D, the white black from the coil goes to the LT spade terminal on the side of the distributor.

 :I-agree:
WB goes to the distributor.
The wire to the carb was for the Solex, so you don't need it.

Thanks.  It was so obvious I could kick myself but it is just a yellow circle on the wiring diagram and I over thought it.  Why did the soles need a white wire and is is live

Yup white with a black tracer goes to the points in the distributor.  The white wire to the carb originally powers a primary idle jet cut off solenoid.  Helped to reduce running-on.

As JB stated it powered the idle jet solenoid, according to the diagram it is powered by the same circuit as the coil, (key on to be live).

Thanks for your help.  As I didn't take this car  apart there are times when it's like a giant jig saw puzzle with only have the picture.

Sorry if these are daft question but.  The brown and green wire that goes from EX on the regulator is supposed to go to EX on the alternator but none of my alternator terminals say EX I've got a DF.

A rather frustrating day yesterday was helped by a gentle counseling session with Richard who talked me through some of the issues. EX on the regulator goes to DF on the alternator.  Obviously the next problem was that the new relays don't have the same labels as the old relays but once again Richard was able to talk me through it. the ignition wiring is now all done.  Ever closer to start up day
