SU fuel pump fix

I know we don't have SU fuel pumps but I thought the principle could be useful for other parts of our cars. Watch this video. You'll probably be able to apply this idea lots of places!

Only 2 things I can add to that ;

1. He's hitting in the wrong place - you need to hit the end of the pump where the contact points are. (I had one exactly the same in the boot of my Marcos and it was really good at stopping just when it was raining or the boot was full of stuff)

2. Chapman would fit a lighter hammer on a Lotus. Weight reduction y'know......

I thought with too much knocking, the valves and pistons would burn out.

A mechanical fuel pump should be the longest lasting.

I have never understood how a fuel pump right in the middle of the petrol in the tank, doesn't make it go kaboom when the fuel is very low, and there is air around the pump to catch the sparks.

I really haven't thought about them much but it does SEEM unsafe. Liquid gasoline will put out a flame - it's the fumes that burn - so that may be part of it. I also wouldn't be surprised to find that they are sealed in nitrogen.
