71 complete car at auction, not cheap.
« on: Thursday,December 17, 2020, 11:48:49 PM »
Listed here, https://abetter.bid/en/49344420-1971-lotus-europa
Wedge head that looks fairly clean.
I suggest getting someone to take a good look before bidding.

Wow! That is a nice car and it has the highest mileage I have seen on a Europa!

I bet there are plenty of Europas with higher mileage....we just cant keep speedo cables from constant failures, especially on 365 transmissions. So many twists and turns! I gave up long ago and use my phone as a speedometer.

I hear you. I switched to an electronic speedo driven by GPS.

My speedo works but it is in MPH. Up here in the "frozen north" we use KPH, (My brain can't calculate fast enough) so I use an app on my phone. Next electrical update will include a charging port and phone cradle.

Wow, fastest thread drift ever!
But, as to speedometer cable issues.
Due to converting to a newer transmission for my Support Truck I've had to learn how to convert an electric speedo drive to run mechanical.
Parts are off the shelf but not cheap.
It should not be hard to convert to an electrical sender and electric to mechanical at the speedometer.
Practical but somewhat expensive.

You know when I looked at the advert I thought "wow, that's a low mileage car".  Funny how we all have different perceptions of these things.

Mine must be around that but I'm not sure because, as the thread drift says, these speedo cables aren't always reliable. From the notebook that came with the car the original owner replaced it twice and I'd have to check but I think I've probably done the same.

When it goes again (note the "when" and not "if"  :)  ) I'm going to try to transplant an electric speedo behind the original dial face like I did with the rev counter. a 10 foot bendy wire is sooooo  20th century.......

This same car (or its twin) was listed recently in a CoPart.com auction. It must not have sold there.

There are several auction sites by name, but they seem to share the same inventory.
The Europa may have a fixed minimum bid amount so not really an auction.
