1974 Europa Twin Cam 4001R. Barn Find! Help
« on: Monday,October 22, 2018, 04:50:10 AM »
Hey everyone... I joined this weekend hoping someone could help me with my 74 Barn Find 4001R.  Seller seems to believe its serial number 1?  Im not sure what the 4 represents.  It looks like only 622 units were built in 74?  Any help would be appreciated. I have posted pics and more info on the member rides section.  THANKS!

Hi Pangle,  :Welcome:

4001R isn't "serial number 1" but is a late model Type 74 Lotus Europa Special.  Check the registry here: http://lotus-europa.com/regspcl.html Serial numbers 3998R and 4002R show up but not 4001R. The full number 73084001R means it was built in 1973, in August (08) and "R" means US Federal specs (emmissions controls, etc.).

This is a very knowledgeable and helpful forum if you decide to go through with your purchase. We also love lots of pictures and would love to see images of your barn find!

Looks like I will be representing both the 94 968 and the 74 Lotus for her to sell.  I have already bought and restored the 92 968 a few months ago..  Most likely all will be on BAT soon, unless someone wants to make an offer or come check out either...

Here are some pics from today once I got her out of the barn and on to the trailer.   few more  from a quick clean up.  Looks like its all there with exception of some light lenses.  Does not appear to be any rust issues and the body seems to be in tact also.

Somewhere in the barn you should find a black fiberglass tub about 3 ft x 2 ft x 1 ft deep. That is the trunk (boot) box. If you find that and the ashtray you will double the value of the car! (Okay, maybe not double, but they are getting scarce.) Also, the little grey plastic Lotus logo disks that go in the center of the Cosmo wheels. Keep an eye out for them too.

I have the trunk and the tool kit!  I think I have most of the center caps for the wheels!

I thought the tool kit was in a fiberglass bag.  I threw it away 25 years ago as being totally useless.  Damn!

OK everyone,  the car is going to be for sale.  I have no idea on the value but if anyone wants to come take a look I am located in northern VA and will happily show the car.  Please feel free to call also.
