Definitely the 1970's video !
« on: Tuesday,April 01, 2025, 10:33:25 PM »
Hi folks,
I tend to browse Youtube when I'm bored and have watched a few old British Pathe newsreel clips which I guess were originall intended for cinema release in the 50/60/70s. These came up recently with brief glimpses of the Europa but I'm posting them mainly to look back at how things used to be back then and how you'd probably get shot down today...

Some weird and wonderful (?) cars on show as well as plenty which are best forgotten.  I had to smile at the commentator on the last video - "Lotus Europa, pretty smooth once you're in it"

I was impressed with the girl in front of the SAAB in the last video! I wonder what Princess Ann thought about her!

Yep, there's a few places in the clips that would no doubt raise eyebrows these days, these releases from Pathe/BBC archives are definitely period pieces.

I can remember the first time I went to a motor show, I think it was very early 70s and being amazed at the whole deal. Girls all over the cars, cars cut in half and some very weird and exotic cars which would never make production. A complete contrast to the last time around '89 when Helen decided she wanted a hot hatch but didn't know which one. Rather than spend days travelling around all the dealers we went to the show and saw them all at once. No cutaways, the models fully dressed, no "show specials".  IIRC TVR stuck with the bikini-clad girls but that was about it.....
