Cutting fiberglass
« on: Thursday,March 27, 2025, 08:28:57 PM »
Need to cut some fiberglass panels that are finished painted. The cuts needed are both straight and curved. Don't want to mess up the paint. Any thoughts on a way to do so...very fine scroll saw?  Have access to both sides of the panel.

Any kind of saw will chew the paint a bit. Laser or water jet would be the cleanest. Barring that, tape the cut line and cut down into the paint surface to reduce chipping. As you said, a very fine scroll saw.

I have used an angle grinder with a thin blade for cutting metal, and it cuts very cleanly.

I used the same when I cut a vent hole in my finished hood.
