Very strange Lotus video
« on: Saturday,February 22, 2025, 06:26:08 AM »
Ahoy all,

Here's a very strange short about Lotus cars.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/U0oe4vA5_kE

Thought it might amuse if nothing else...

Cheers

I thought it was pretty cool! I was going to pick some nits but I feel like I shouldn’t disparage a clever video.

Never heard of the Emeya. And, that took a lot of animation work. Fun video

Or... was it AI?
Yes, I'll watch it again and probably repost it to others as it is a clever little video. However, I too would nitpick it for many obvious and may be some not so obvious errors and omissions.

Definitely AI. The images change too fast to nit-pick details, but I suspect there is lots of nonsense that the AI thinks looks mechanical. I get a kick out of hyper realistic AI "art" of sailing vessels that demonstrate AI has no clue how sailboats work.

Call me out-of-touch, but I dream of a world where AI does the drudge work, and humans make the art. Not the other way around.

Never heard of the Emeya.

It's time for Lotus to rethink their model naming.  Names like Elan, Elite or Esprit made a connection to some positive quality.  And Elise is a perfectly good name.  But when I try to make a connection to Emeya all I get is emetic.  Ugh.

Ah, Emeya, the electric corporate suicide machine.
Did they not get the memo?
EV is NOT taking over.

My guess is that they were already committed when Mercedes, Volvo, Rivian, etc. got the memo. Given the number of miles people drive cars like that, they may make more sense than a daily commuter (which depending on how far it is to work and what kind of weather you have can make sense - as long as your car doesn't catch fire in your garage).

For a laugh, I tried configuring an Emeya adding all the options and managed to get to 207,000€ or $217,000 which seems like rather a lot of money to me. I thought the exterior colours unimaginative and the interior shades as dull as ditch water. EV or ICE it's still hardly in the Lotus tradition. It weighs over two and a half tons!!!! Or put another way, four times the weight of my S2 Europa. How ridiculous. Add weight and complicate.
