Clutch pedal pressure
« on: Saturday,January 04, 2025, 08:01:51 AM »
Am I right in thinking that the clutch pedal pressure is determined by the pressure plate only - providing the linkage is free moving?
mine is really stiff and as I'm going to be removing the engine and box over the winter, I thought I'd ask the question, so I can investigate where I might look to reduce the required heave on the pedal.

Places where a stiff clutch pedal might come from (or be contributory): Pedal assy., clutch cable, clutch pivot in bell housing, clutch cover.

The Rule of the Clutch: If you see the clutch, replace the clutch.

When you pull the engine and tranny, check all those areas. Given that you're pulling the engine and tranny, it sounds like you're not dealing with a reliable driver but more likely a rescue from extended inaction in which case, I would probably count on changing the cable anyway.

I would undo the clutch cable at the gearbox end and work the pedal with your hand to make sure that the cable is ok and routed well.

Strangely, all is well with the linkage and cable, as it's virtually all been replaced within the last few thousand miles. However, as mentioned I've just (today) started to undo things for removing the engine and 'box.

There's another new question about that now.....
