'73 TCS w/Weber Head For Sale $29K

A bit different venue. Car located in Portsmouth, NH. Doesn't tell much about it other than 40K miles. I'm betting it is a 4spd. Minilite rims. Built: 10/1972, invoiced: 11/1/1972. Originally Carnival Red (L05), repainted slightly different red (and lost its Special gold pinstripes). Pictures look nice, but without more info, that's about all I can add.

Nice enough looking car. Very clean. Weber head is a very nice addition, but almost no information about the car. It says it has a black leather interior but I'm betting it's vinyl. No pictures of the bottom of the car. I'm a sucker for stainless steel braided hose which says (to me) that the builder has a sense of detail. The wheels are nice. Were I in New England and in the market, I would definitely take a look.

There is much to like from what I can see and find with a quick search. The NELLI decal lead me to this small Lotus club’s website and a photo of the car. The link shows the following from 2003:

Restored 1999-2000.  Suspension lowered, adjustable shocks, adjustable front and rear suspension, engine converted to twin Weber carburetors, gearbox changed from 4-speed to 5-speed.  Wheels changed to 14" Panasport.  Original color was Carnival Red.
However, there are many more questions that need to be answered. The paint looks newish, very heavy with lots of orange peel. Why do so many components look so new yet the passenger headlight ring looks as if it’s been sitting outside through dozens of New England winters? Makes one wonder what the underside looks like. Why does it have the wrong Championship badge? Yes more photos and a better description is in order.

Ha! I remember John White from the old Yahoo group days! He was starting his restoration about the time I "finished" mine. Searching messages on the new lotuseuropa groups.io he seems to have been pretty astute as well as respected in the group. I happen to have found a message from the guy who bought his car in '06. He paid almost $20K for it saying it was a immaculate restoration.

The rusty headlamp bezel is a mystery. Something as ugly and available as that on what otherwise is a clean car is inexcusable. I echo your call for a more complete description and undercar photos. A driving and/or cold start video would be helpful but that site may not be set up for that.

As I understand it the company uses the “For Sale by Owner” to generate customers for their real business, coatings and detailing. I’m sure they get some money for placing the ad and perhaps a percentage of the sale price if it does sell. If I could afford it I’d open a dialogue with them. However, $29K US at today’s exchange rate with banks fees and taxes puts the price at $47k CAD. Plus I’d still have to pay to ship the car to Ontario which cost me about $7K CAD when I brought my Caterham in from Utah back in March.

Looks pretty good on the surface. Weber head is a converted Stromberg head by John McCoy. No under side photos always leads me to believe that they are hiding something. Sort of like lipstick on a pig.
