Headlight covers for S1 &S2
« on: Tuesday,November 26, 2024, 11:26:51 PM »
Greetings all,

If anyone is interested I can supply headlight covers for the S1 and S2 Europas. It is not yet sure if these will fit the TC or Federal cars, perhaps if the headlight chrome rim is removed?

They are super light weight in true Lotus fashion and made from 0.75mm PETG plastic. They are surprisingly solid once in place. They are supplied as a pair as each side is very slightly different and come with brackets, screws and instructions.

Price is 110€ a pair and as they are so light can be shipped anywhere relatively inexpensively.

Please contact me benjy342@gmail.com

Thanks, I made them for me but they looked so great I thought I ought to offer them to other owners too!

Bonjour Benjy, the covers look fantastic! As does your early S2 :-)
I think that those early S2s are the smartest pick of the range. They still look a lot like an S1 with their push button doors and without the warts indicators. But they offer the full advantage of a detachable chassis. I would like to see a picture of the full car.

well it's not finished yet. I have been at it for over a year now. But the outside is done and in epoxy primer, just waiting for warmer weather to put the top coat on. Just the interior to make which I will do in leather this winter. I agree that an early S2 is the best of the bunch. Here are some pics of the car albeit with no glass. Cheers

Have you checked these with a later S2? The geometry around the headlight area changed a decent amount, unshrouding the beam a bit.
I ask as my S1 wears a S2 front end, with the above bumper indicators.

I'm afraid all I know for now is that they fit an early S2 without the pod indicators. They might well fit later S2s and other models but until I find someone with a later car/s I have no way of knowing. In time I hope to be able to answer these questions. Incidentally if anyone with a Europa happens to be traveling through France they are very welcome to stop by 'chez moi' and I will be happy to check fitment of covers!  :)

Benjy, I am not in Europe to participate. But if you have an early pair of covers that fit but couldn’t be used (maybe due to cosmetic flaws) perhaps you could ship them around to a few people to test fit. Then we would know which models are covered.

Ok, I could do that but would prefer someone in Europe obviously as it costs a fortune to send Internationally even at such a low weight. Plus if I ship within Europe the Post office even collect the package from my letter box!

If there is anyone in Europe with a TC who fancies trying to fit a headlight cover (they are pretty much the same left and right) I can send one with imperfections to try.

What I believe will be the case, the cover will fit fine but the headlight rim will need removing as I am sure it will foul the cover. But I am unsure which models differ and how. Does anyone here know? Are there part numbers for repair panels that would give us a clue? As I understand it there may be as many as three different sizes and shapes of front wings. The S1 and S2 are the same, there's the TC and Federal ones. Perhaps the TC and Federal are the same. I just don't know so if someone could clarify that would help too.

If someone wants to try and is prepared to take pics and explain their findings, I am happy to send a cover out.... Just let me know.

Cheers

Benjy

Thank you for working on this project.  Please let me know when you determine whether they fit the Type 65 (Federal).  I have an S2 Type 65 and would be interested in having these fitted when the car comes back to me from the shop here in Southern California.  V/R. Charlie

Federal cars, both Type 65 and Type 74 have revised front guards (wings) which was needed to raise the headlights to meet US regulations of the time.

As a result, the Federal headlight recess is a different shape to the earlier Type 46 and Type 54 cars.
