The body number and VIN didn't match.

  According to those two locations.  Are the sn plates on the s1 supposed to be on the forward bulkhead or front of storage wall?
 I also found a little rectangle imprint on the botttoms of the doors that I’ll have to check out
A see if I can get some ID numbers .
   Funny part is that there are no drain holes in the bottom of the S1 doors. I guess they thought it wouldn’t get any water.

The SN plate is located at the front of the bulhead on the driver side as it is on your car. The body number and the VIN do not match in many cases. Lotus just didn't care.

Certainly S1s with fixed windows had no way for water to get in.  Mine stay completely dry, no matter what.  Also, it's not going to rust.

   I forgot they don’t move. I saw some pictures of window mods that hinged and some of sliders.
I have plenty of time to get acquainted with the difference now.
 Engine tear down was scary. Still fighting splitting the gearbox from engine and the other gearbox, pressure plate and disc from it . Tomorrow the acetylene torch is coming out .

I just picked up two 821 blocks for free that I think would be better suited as garden planters, but now that I'm seeing yours...

  The S/N’s had me worried.
   Another observation after opening doors was the A pillars are extremely thinner than the S2’s.
 I’ll heed the warnings for sure on them. Hopefully the PO’s son will find the windscreen and side windows, headlight buckets and some more information other than a name of the seller, to the father of Jim Snowden. Just word of mouth info…  it’s funny or a coincidence a James Snowden  of California owns or did own an latter S1a , a son perhaps???
  Going through a stack of lotus literature reveals nothing so far.

The a-pillar is covered by vinyl trim so reinforce it while you can.  Simply fibreglassing in a strip or rod of metal will do the trick.

Ditto on reinforcing S1 pillar. Wish I had done that before my last paint job years ago.

  I found a few more items of interest , bell housing has a slant to it . I was able to cut out the springs on the pressure plate and pull the rest off with a gear puller.
 Owners manual only in French .
