Have you noticed ….
« on: Friday,October 18, 2024, 05:22:46 PM »
I noticed that my license plate and it’s lights are not centered in the rear of the car, they are an inch to far to the right, are anyone else’s like this?

I didn't notice it on your car but I noticed it on mine!  ;D

Actually, I centered my license plate and that means that the lights for the license plate are not centered on the plate. I suppose the position of the lights is less important in England where the numbers generally take up more room but still that doesn't explain why they didn't space them symmetrically!

My UK 74 TCS has only one number plate light, and we have wider number plates than in the US!

Of course the light is mounted so the left hand edge of the chrome trim is  below the lock for the engine cover - I'm assuming that is centred......

Here are my license plate lights. They are in the position set at the factory. The license plate is centered but...

Funny, I never noticed that before. But yep, my Special is off centre too. A quick measurement shows almost 1.5 inches.
The Twin Cam plays the symphony whilst my right foot conducts the orchestra. At 3800 rpm the Mad Pipe Organ joins in.

When I was repairing the bodywork of my special, I noticed a patch there on the left of the plate. Aside from the louvers in the pic below, was there ever anything sticking out of that area? I know an earlier model had the exhaust around there. Was the plate’s offset a leftover from something earlier?

I added the louvers as an exhaust for an oil cooler. When I was building my car I figured there would be a nice low pressure area behind the car. but it turns out not to be that strong a low pressure area. I didn't want to put the oil cooler in front of the radiator because I only wanted cool air on my radiator. As it turns out, in front of the water radiator really is the best place for it unless you want to do some drastic body mods but also with my oil temp gauge I've found out that there is very little need for an oil cooler - maybe if I did track days...

Oh well. I live and learn. I'll know where to put the cooler on the next Europa I build!  ;D
