GPS speedometer

I got the electronic speedo found on this page (http://www.gaugeguys.com/Smiths/classic.htm). It looks a lot like the stock speedo.

I have not installed it yet (I'm having my problems  ) but there is a guy on the lotuseuropa yahoo group that has and he likes his. It is supposed to be very easy to calibrate.

I have installed one in my S2 because I changed to a 395 gearbox and my mechanical speedo over read by about 100%.  The GPS speedo would not be suitable for me in Sydney because we have a lot of tunnels with no GPS reception and they have speed cameras in most of them.  Because it is a Smiths instrument it looks completely at home in my dash and it was easy to fit and calibrate using a GPS.  I used a sender off ebay which fits directly into the speedo drive in the Renault gearbox.

The above is the part I used and with only a small amount of modification I fitted it directly into the gearbox in place of the standard cable.  Result is a very accurate speedo which works in tunnels.

That Speedhut GPS unit is very impressive.  I probably would have done that if I knew about it several years ago.

If you watch the video, the sales guy walks you through the menu options which include 0-60 and 1/4 mile timing...
