Nice that they gave you the dyno sheets for your shocks (I presume those plots are for your particular shocks).

What I've found is that there are lots of different spring rates people use. The ones you've chosen (and that I recommended) are a "popular" set but everybody has their preference that can depend on the type of driving or the roads they drive on. I think you'll be happy with them.

Hi BDA

Yes I unashamedly copied you!

Yes there are 4 sheets in total for the shocks. I thought the rear springs looked a bit strange with the top part being a different coil style. Perhaps they are progressive in some way?

All the best

I believe they gave you helper springs so they wouldn't get misaligned in droop. I appears they gave you 10" rear springs so the helper springs are needed. Your posts encouraged me to look for new springs and I couldn't find any that were 12" long - not with a 115# rate at least so they probably had the same problem.

Hi Berni,
As BDA said, those thinner springs at the top are helper springs so that if you go on full droop the main spring stays under compression rather than flopping about. IIRC they are typically around 1-2lbs/inch and don't affect the overall spring rate in any noticeable way.

What I can't make out (and hence this post) is the top of the rear damper. It looks like a stud mount with those two flat rubber bushes whereas mine is a bolt/bush as per the lower mounting ? Is it just that the whole damper isn't in the photo ?

Hello Brian

Good spot, thank you. Will be getting on to GAZ on Monday. Have not actually picked them up yet so should not be too difficult to sort out. I hope.

All the best

Hi

Can I just check please that there are no differences between Fedral and UK cars with respect to the rear shocks? UK cars did not use a different top mounting?

I am sure they did not but I am not 100% sure.......

Many thanks

I have only seen the type of damper with a bush at either end. Looking at the parts manual it gives the same damper part number for all TC's onwards.

The pictures in the S1/S2 manuals show a similar design but with some differences in part numbers. I guess that might be down to a change of damper resistance or length but I've no real idea.
