Twin Cam windscreen installation

Hi all,

To change the headliner, my upholstery shop was obliged to remove the windscreen, since the leather headlining was glued onto the body under the windscreen. The windscreen was glued into the window opening on top of the edge of the headliner.

Presnetly, the winscreen is still removed. When looking to the opening now, the top and sides of the window opening have lips/edges onto which a seal could fit, however there is no such lip on the bottom. I’ll try to include a photo of the bottom window frame (non lip) as well as the top corner where the edges are visible. Does this mean the windscreen can only be bonded to the body and one cannot  use the rubber for non-bonded windscreens?

More in general: are the windscreens of Twin Cams glued/bonded? If so, how to attach the chrome window trim?
Any advice or suggestion highly appreciated.

I had a windscreen fitted to my TCS on Wednesday.

First they paint the windscreen surround and the 20mm wide edge of the glass windscreen with black paint, which is highly volatile, and dries very quickly.

Then dependant on whether you have the original trim, or a new Banks chrome trim, either glue the original trim to the glass with the corners in place, or if it is a new Banks trim, which does not grip the glass, leave the trim off for now.

Then they put a V of black windscreen sealer all around the fibreglass frame with a special battery operated gun.

Then with lifting suction handles applied, they lifted the screen into place, and put more of the black windscreen sealer around the open perimeter, pushed the new Banks trim into the black glue, and held it in place with lots of sticky tape at about 6" centres.

I left the screen like that for 24 hours before removing the tape.

The new Banks trim is not a good fit into the corner pieces, so I adjusted the corner pieces with needle nosed pliers to get the new right shape.

Then they put two part glue on to the metal mirror mount, held it in place for about 2 minutes to cure, and told me not to move the mirror for at least 12 hours.

Previously they have fitted 4 other screens for me with the new Banks trim on the glass, and it loses adhesion, and lifts in places, so I will remove the loose trims and stick them in place with the black windscreen adhesive from a glue gun. It is only decorative after all.

I don’t have the trim, so have to contact Banks, or otherwise SJSportscars. They also seem to have it on their catalogue.
The car needs to be ready in 1.5 weeks for a Lotus Europa tourist rally in France, so delivery of the trim may become the bottleneck.
