Blower Housing Seal
« on: Wednesday,August 02, 2023, 12:35:17 PM »
Lotus World, Woodstock (my 70 S2) and I are getting closer to being roadworthy. He is sitting on his new "shoes". I went low profile. Hubba Hubba. You have solved my previous two issues. I hope we go three for three. I have rehabbed the blower fan housing and motor. I am getting ready to install it. There is a "seal" #20 on the parts list. I cannot source it using the usual suspects (vendors). I considered using a grommet and cutting it to fit the housing and opening. Do any of you have a better solution or source for the "seal"?

I have used a strip of self adhesive foam rubber, about 25mm x 20mm to seal the gap.

I have used a strip of self adhesive foam rubber, about 25mm x 20mm to seal the gap.

pretty much all it was originally.  well, maybe not adhesive, but foam rubber ring that was slipped around the outlet of the blower and then slipped into the cutout in the front plenum bulkhead.

Used the size mentioned here around the outlet with the seam at the bottom so it was less noticeable.  No one ever took off points at the shows I brought her to for having a non-standard/incorrect parts.  Not that they would have known, tbh.

Thanks for the replies. I will search for the foam rubber product you have noted. I have started with a silicone wristband, you know the kind that have slogans on them like breast cancer awareness. They slip over the end of the housing and look good. I debate the integrity / sturdiness of the material but, when i find the foam rubber product, can replace it at that time. Cheers.
