7mm roll pins for transaxle output shafts
« on: Thursday,January 30, 2014, 06:35:09 PM »
Where are people getting their 7mm roll pins from?
Having trouble finding anything at the moment.
This is for the 5 speed gearbox in my S2, so the single pin rather than two pin setup.

I gave up trying to source a couple of the right length/diameter locally a few years ago and just bought mail order from a Lotus Specialist. I can't remember which one but it would probably have been either Christopher Neil (Northwich, UK) or SJS Lotus. These days I'd guess Richard at Europa Engineering would be the easiest source ?

Thanks for identifying at least a couple of sources, albeit a little to far to just drive over an pick a couple up.
I did the rounds on the phone and in person of the accessible local specialists today without much joy.
Plan B will probably be in force as an interim measure while I obtain some pins from far far away.

Just an update: Plan B worked fine, modified some 8mm roll pins by running a cut-off disc along the gap to remove some material and then 'squeezed' them down in the press to get the fit right. Made a couple of spares for next time while I was at it.
No play and lock wired in just for good measure.

If you get stuck for supply at some point, this crowd might be another source.

Replacements parts for tractors, sounds about right for a Lotus  :)

This is a redundant post, but this thread seems like a more logical place to put it.

JAE's new roll pins, inner & outer, fit the Europa S1-S2.

Outer Roll Pin (7mm Nominal Spec)
OD ..... Length.. Gap .... OD .... Length ... Gap
(inch) .. (inch) .. (inch) ... (mm) .. (mm) .... (mm)
0.298 x 1.573 x 0.087 = 7.560 x 39.954 x 2.219 -- New JAE, Sept 2017
0.301 x 1.571 x 0.081 = 7.650 x 39.903 x 2.062 -- Prev JAE
0.283 x 1.541 x 0.060 = 7.195 x 39.129 x 1.511 -- Lotus OEM

Inner Roll Pin (4mm Nominal Spec)
OD ..... Length.. Gap .... OD .... Length ... Gap
 (inch) .. (inch) .. (inch) ... (mm) .. (mm) .... (mm)
0.177 x 1.577 x 0.061 = 4.491 x 40.056 x 1.565 -- New JAE, Sept 2017
0.215 x 1.583 x 0.061 = 5.461 x 40.208 x 1.537 -- Prev JAE was too big, didn't fit.
I don't have a Lotus OEM inner to measure.

Regards,
Tim Engel
