Weber 32/36 issues
« on: Tuesday,July 04, 2023, 07:13:01 PM »
I have a Weber 32/36 I’m trying to run my engine it does start runs idle , but as soon as I give throttle
It dies out but if I block the top of the carb  choke totally closed and give it throttle it runs great
It feels like if I don’t block the choke there is not enough suction to pull the gas out what could cause this any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks !

It'd been 33 years since I had a 32/36 but I know they have primary and secondary circuits. I had a primary get plugs. If I gave enough throttle to open the secondary, it was better. I'm not saying it's your problem but it was mine.

Remove the carb top and check the float level, jets, etc.  It is just five screws and a quick release on the choke linkage.

I am going to open it up the thing is I’m trying to figure out Is was what causes this I was thinking primary jet is maybe blocked could that cause this situation cause it runs fine when choke is blocked
So floats are ok it idles without blocking the carb but dies out after a minute so idle jet seems ok
No vacuum leak new gas filter so if I go by deductions it would be the primary jet doesn’t let fuel pass
And needs the extra help by blocking the carb now would that make sense

Float level has little affect on the idle circuit.

Thanks I noticed the accelerator pump was leaking so finally I’m going to take it all apart any suggestions to unclog any cavities that might be blocked I heard soaking the carb in pine soil could do the trick want to clean everything up before reassembly

Carefuly strip it, making notes as you go: which jets where, turns to bottom, etc.  Best if you could get it ultrasonically cleaned.  Use compressed air to test all passages.

I just opened it up and I don’t get it it is dry inside and dusty it was on a car two days ago and running fine when I blocked the choke here’s a picture with top removed I’m wondering where did the gas come from if the bowl is dry and dirty

When I took the top off I moved the carb around and ended with a tiny ball bearing in the bowl tried to see where it came from put it over a hole and got stuck there then I tapped the back to get the bearing out and a second one appeared I can’t see where they should be I looked at a few diagrams but can’t find them

Little update!!
The two little ball bearings are check valves  one goes under the accelerator pump jet the other one goes beside the accelerator pump

I had two webers 32/36 with same problem had to block choke for them to run one of them as the main jet completely blocked
The other one the emulsion tube was totally blocked creating the same problem
They are both going to be rebuilt waiting on the parts
Thanks
