'72 Twin Cam on eBay (faux JPS?)
« on: Tuesday,May 23, 2023, 05:26:53 AM »
Pretty good bidding for this early in the auction - especially for a car that needs a windshield and rear window. Plus the correct mirrors. Pretty rough inside, except for the newer seat covers.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/364268246667?hash=item54d014568b%3Ag%3AVeUAAOSw%7EzRkam0m&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA0KIQtloYisrDGwg3ZWXZojTXgSkhG0%2BFEgZFK9jP3dtxGf7JgzS13kgnVtpPJ2xk3WWQVX5wcFIFQcC7u%2F2NWnehE9g77f7UNq6Okc3Y3lIumWNw7HTWbopVb8cqncdkUvU1AkRcew35hFOBM%2B4gpvkGE4BpAOQHP3l1hX0FX3UuGJVN9Pz0LHqmrs49hNTzoQUdlboLbSKVMrasQonJBsdG7KLC%2BLQM8jm45PvSnWcrkO7OEVl1tq%2B7YNgqneUw%2FoWw2KwHBwsCdpsk0y%2Fnto8%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6aSvYqJYg&LH_ItemCondition=3000%7C1000%7C2500

Doesn't mention JPS, but the implication is there in the photos. Striping and side decal all wrong.

Also, if it were me, I think I'd stage this shot a bit differently :) "You're gonna need a bigger chain!"

Yeah, that striping is a mess. The car seems a bit rough but should make a decent project. Good if it can be had for project money. A few dollars will be left on the table due to the lackluster presentation.

Oh wait; The ashtray is missing. So, maybe a parts car only, then  ;)  ;D

The Twin Cam plays the symphony whilst my right foot conducts the orchestra. At 3800 rpm the Mad Pipe Organ joins in.

I like that spark plug laying on the side next to the engine.  Project money?  I'm thinking the current bid is about all it's worth, or a grand or so more.

Some think they've struck gold finding one.  I'd not spend more than 7 or 8K USD for this.  Pretty rough (striping aside).  If it's a 72, it's just a twin cam...not a special.

The more I look, the worse it gets! Was it painted with a paint brush?

And is there any part of the behind dash wiring that hasn't been pulled out? Scary.  But then again, the originality of the engine ground strap is a certainly picture-worthy. :)

So this is a TC invoiced around late March or early April 1972, weekend stripping job to make to look like a TCS, then slap on some side stickers to suggest a JPS. Sort of a wannabe, wannabe, never was, never was.

Does not state if boxed end wrench hanging off the alternator is included in the sale or not.

I'll take back my 'what's she worth' estimate.  No more than 5K.  Not even CLOSE to being roadworthy with just some quick work (like 3291R was...in retrospect).

Sad that people let assets deteriorate like that.  To me, that would be a body-off, year at the minimum.  Ship the body out to shop for refinishing, work on the mechanicals while gone...but a year, at a minimum.  And that would be assuming that refreshing would be just regasketing and such, not a complete strip and rebuild.

There seems to be several things missing, i.e. door cards.

It needs a complete strip down, paint, a complete re-trim, and you end up with a 4 speed TC, not a EUROPA SPECIAL like it says on the engine cover.

$5-$6k IMHO.

I think it's a bit weird that there isnt an engine shot, but includes one with a plastic bag on the front suspension!

Now it says it ended with no sale at $7,300!. That's weird because when I posted the update on Wednesday it really did show $8k and reserve off. Apparently, that bidder withdrew the $8K bid. (Perhaps when they saw they might actually end up with the thing?)

In any case, just proves once again that the Seller should have grabbed the $7,900 last time.

Maybe the $8k bid was from a friend raising the price.
