Gear lever gate
« on: Tuesday,March 21, 2023, 12:23:24 PM »
After 50 years of Europa ownership I decided to do something I should have done decades ago. The gearchange on the 5 speed Europa Special is often rather hit and miss, especially in competition driving. So after having fiddled with the reverse and 5th gear indent mechanism to make it more positive, it is still possible to fudge 2nd gear going down from 3rd. So I have removed the indent mechanism ball and spring and installed a gate at the gear lever. I don't know whether anyone has tried this before. it still needs some fine tuning and still waiting for a part for the reverse lock-out device, but although I have not had a chance to try it on the road, it looks promising.

The thing I most remember about the 365 was how hard it was to get it into 5th but if you’re having trouble reliably catching gears, it looks like you might have solved both issues. Very Ferrari-esque!

I would round off the corners to make sure you don’t get caught on one!
