Vin question
« on: Wednesday,October 05, 2022, 07:23:06 AM »
Found a very sad Europa under a tree in Virginia. It's a s2 I believe. The vin plate says 1170R, I have tried to find vin decoder to no avail. I need to trim the weeds around it to get look at drivetrain.
It has 4 pipes coming out of the area where the  license plate would be.
Has good windshield , no rear windshield. Interior is trash.
I believe it will be a "you can have it if you move it..."  body is straight but rough.
So is it an s2 federal? What year?
What engine should it have?

I really have no need for this, but feel too sad leaving it.

Do early windshields work on later cars ie would this fit my tc?

Yes early windshields fit TC. It's only the Chinese aftermarket ones that are undersized for S1 and S2.

The last place "R" indicates US or federal car. If the VIN starts with a 54 it is pre 1970. If it starts with a 7 it is post 1970.

Thank you I will get info on the full vin. The only plate I could access was the small one that only gave the number I listed earlier

Can you take some pictures of it in its current surroundings? I always like to ponder how such an awesome car came to a sad end... I saw a Ferrari in the woods on Ebay a few years ago, not much left of it due to the elements. It's hard to grasp why people dump some cars like that...

I access this site via my phone and it seems impossible to post pictures. Sorry. Would love to. My race mechanic has a client with a collection of exotic cars, keeps them all outside, under pine trees , near the ocean. He seems to have no concern as they rust away, most are all mechanically sound drivers. Like a 308, Mondial convertible, early xjs, a euro bmw e30m3, list goes on. The Mondial is basically see thru at this point.

I don't think so; I sent Dan the update for 3291R and never saw the entry nor any updates.

Omg, I have a Mondial convertible. Anything and everytthing to fix on the car is super expensive. Trying to fix one of those back to normal condition would cost more than the car is worth.
