What was here?
« on: Monday,May 30, 2022, 03:45:11 PM »
I'm curious to know what was here, under the dash on the right side of my Federal TC.
 Any ideas?

Hmmm.  No way to preview the attachments, and I must have screwed it up while trying.  Here they are...

If my federal TCS is any guide, nothing on the outside two holes. Mine doesn’t have holes there. So, maybe an old mod of some sort? Amplifier? CB radio? The inboard two are brackets for some sort of pivot. But you have something mounted there too.

I'm not sure I understand the pictures. It looks like the first one is of the front trunk looking toward the back of it in front of the passenger compartment. I think the bottom picture shows the heater in the upper left and the bottom of the windshield wiper motor in the upper right.

If I got that right, then the bolts you're pointing to in the first picture on the right hold part of the accelerator pedal assy. The two holes on the left don't exist on my car. They were apparently put there by a PO.

Amplifier, CB radio, police scanner, Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator, etc.

Thanks, guys.  I'll assume that it used to be an Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator there.

BDA, you're right except for your final conclusion.  First picture was taken standing next to the fender on the passenger side of this US car.  Second one, looking up under the dash from just ahead of the passenger seat.  The two bolts protruding with no nuts beyond the heater are the two you can see in the first photo.  As a US car, the accelerator is off to the left, on the other side of the tunnel.

A surprising amount of space there!

The pedal is on the left of the backbone but the attachment for the accelerator pedal assy. is to the floor of the front trunk on either side of the backbone. That is part #4 in this parts diagram http://lotus-europa.com/manuals/tcparts/j/tcje.pdf.

Ironically, it appears they have the different accelerator and brake/clutch pedal assys assigned to the wrong drive side. Parts #2 and #4 belong to left hand drive cars and #1 and #3 belong to right hand drive cars! You know that because the ear for the clutch cable on #2 is on the right so the cable will run along the side of the backbone and the mount for the accelerator cable on #4 is on the same end as the pedal which will be on the left of the backbone.

Aaha!  Yes, you're right about all that, including their error.

Thats a perfect example of why people should post pictures on the registry.

If it isn't original than do away with it.

Seems like whatever had been there had indeed been done away with.

But you have me thinking...maybe JB should just scrap his car.  Too many mods.

About the registry,  are you talking about this: http://lotus-europa.com/registry.html?  It looks to be inactive, like everything on that site.  Last update was in 2015, or so it says.

Dan Morrison is supposed to be maintaining it. You can try emailing him at danmo at yahoo dot com.

It does seem to be a low priority for him. One would think that he would at least update the home page.
