Mr. Gasket 9746 fuel filter
« on: Wednesday,March 23, 2022, 03:10:31 PM »
I just changed my fuel filter (Mr. Gasket pn 9746).  It looks nice and is chrome plated and is available at almost all auto parts stores.  However, when I removed the old one, it rattled when shaken.  The innards had come loose.  Apparently, ethanol eats away the glue and the loose bits go into your carbs and the filter no longer filters.
There are some reports online showing the same behavior
Not good!.

The last one was the Mr. Gasket? You used the same p/n again?

I bought the filter before I changed it.  New one on the way.

Definitely not good, thanks for the heads up.

Now you've got me wondering about the filters I have on my cars and I was already getting paranoid about the 1970s rubber in the fuel pump !

As I posted on another thread, we've recently gone to E10 fuel over here. Is your experience with E10 fuels or something else ? (is there an E15 ??? )

Cheers
Brian
