Lotus cars asking prices, SoCal Craigslist
« on: Monday,March 07, 2022, 12:08:49 PM »
Perusing the weekend Craiglist for new listings and came across a broad sampling of various Lotus for sale and current asking prices.

73 Europa TCS, $25,000. I last saw the car in person a couple of years ago and the owner did a good job of maintaining the Europa. I believe it is worth the asking price

67 Elan S3, $55,000. Definitely not stock but no outrageous mods done to it that I can see, others may have differing opinions.

66 Lotus Cortina Mk1, $44,800 Totally astounded by the prices for the LoCorts. I don’t know enough to tell if it's a reproduction or genuine.

05 Lotus Elise, $50,000. This owner has done some tasteful mods to the Elise and spent a bit of money. Even still, I’m a bit surprised if that is the going value for an early Elise. I bought my 05 Elise in 07 for $37,000. A couple of years later the price bottomed out to the high $20k to low $30k range. It seems to have recovered to the mid to high $30k range again depending on the trim level and the amount of modifications done to the car.

Another 05 Elise $38,000. This example has a salvage title and he’s still asking for $38,000

And finally a 74 Spitfire Mk4, $17,000. For a Spitfire. Granted it appears to be in pretty good condition but it’s a Spitfire. I owned one back in the mid 70s so I know the car. Oh well.

Gee, some strong prices there.

The Spit looks all wrong to my eyes. Apart from the model plane nailed on the front the bodywork looks wavy and the wheel arch clearances make it look like it's been turned into an off-roader !

The stance in the front of the Spitfire is definitely wrong. I wonder if the reflections in the paint make the body seem wavy?

I was going to complain about the airplane hood ornament and then I noticed it was a Spitfire! I wouldn't have done it but it brought a smile to my face!

Spitfire stance is a Fed. issue.
Fed. mandated headlamp height messed with the design.
Where have I heard of that happening before?
I have the same Spitfire in project status.
It does not sit silly in the front so has been adjusted at some time.
