Throttle linkage
« on: Saturday,February 19, 2022, 09:26:12 AM »
I recently purchased a top mount linkage assembly with the cable, I found it to be way to short. The original Renault cable way to long and it has the absence of the soldered barrel on the cable.  The casing is also too long, as anyone else ran into this and can you shorten the casing? that end is crimped. Is ther a place I can order the correct length and correct terminating ends?

I googled it 🥱 found they have brass barrels that get soldered in .
Found my perfect brass rod stock, drilled a hole in it and cut length.
Next I cut off the crimped connector just before the crimp on the cable side . Drilled out the wire spiral and removed the coating from inside . Inserted a drill bit into the connector and tapped out the crimp.
Perfect fit . Now to put it back in , cut the casing and solder the end on.

  Boy that was easy🥴

Next the clutch cable.

I make my own cables with bulk, lined bicycle outer housing and tandem length cables.  You can buy ferrules at bicycle shops as well.  You can make the ends a above but you can also buy them from any motorcycle parts supplier.  Mine are from Motion Pro (I also make up my own cables for my various motorcycles and scooters).

I thought I could do that but I wanted to finish today.
No soldering necessary but had to drill in a 6/32 set screw . The barrel goes into the housing first and the cable threaded thru . I saw these on my search but until you start a job with the cables given to you it’s difficult to picture every aspect done.

It’s done now except for setting pedal height and bottom at pedal not carb. Or so I believe.
