Burn the heretic
« on: Sunday,February 06, 2022, 03:55:47 PM »
Alas, I must report even more evil doing on my part.  If you are purist, restore-to-original-or-die, type of chap/ette, please do not watch the video below!

I find my legs often get involved/entangled with the column switches.  I dim the lights when I go from the throttle to the brake, and I cancel the right signal when I work the clutch.  All of which is not very helpful.  So I bought a steering wheel radio remote control unit, buttons and paddle switches.  The signals are buttons on the cross arms with the right paddle switch controlling the high beams, the left triggering a single wipe and the horn button sounding the horn — no surprise there but now it’s through the remote unit.  Bonus, if you hit both signal buttons at the same time, you get hazards (not stock on an S1).

My S1 is a driver, gets driven, and I’m delighted with the changes.  YMMV

The previous owner of my car sawed a few inches off the middle console for more leg room. Maybe that might work for some of our bigger readers in this forum.

I got the control unit (8 channel) and button switches from here:

https://blinkstop.co.uk/shop/index.php?route=common/home

The paddle switches I got from:

https://ascher-racing.com/de/paddle-shifter/

I made my own mounting brackets as there’s nothing off the shelf for Mota Lita wheels.

The instruments are Smiths GT40.
