I paid around 10k in 2017. 

For reference, I am painting my Sunbeam Tiger now, which is steel unibody.  I am painting the entire car.

Dustless blasting $1200

I year of work so far.

Just the paint.

PPG  Dplf50 epox primer  $420 Gallon with catalyst.  1.5 gallon needed.
PPG K38 2k high build primer with catalyst  gallon $530
reducer $105 a gal
dcc single stage paint gallon with catalyst $1130 a gallon.

So, when I am done, I would say I made 1 cent an hour.  But, I can't complain about anyone else about the paint job.

I just sprayed the high build primer.  Block and sand and then finish coat left.

It surely will be cheaper, but those paint product prices have sure increased since I last painted (about 6 years ago). Good to paint now before the FL humidity?

Like everything else.  I bought a gallon of evercoat gold for $65, 6 months ago.  It costs $100 now.

    My cost are in line with Pfreens' except I went with basecoat / clearcoat. Other costs are also to be considered and can also drive up an individual's cost another grand.

Wow,I am amazed at the paint prices. I used the same, DPLF,K38,single stage when I did my trans am ,it was 12 yrs ago and a gallon of white and a quart of clear was $370.  I mixed clear in with the white for the last two coats,seemed to work fine.

On the subject of paint prices, I can't recall how much I spent when I did mine in 2011 but I do know how much I normally use.

Generally I buy 5L of topcoat which usually leaves some over for touching up down the line, and looking at my previous supplier that's coming in at roughly £350 ($475). With primers, fillers, resin & other consumables like paper/mask filters I could see a current bill being close to £1k for materials.

What did surprise me looking at current prices is that 2K paint is now cheaper than cellulose. It used to be the other way round and makes 2K the no-brainer choice unless you really do want that cellulose look.

$1150 for a gallon of paint? Um, no. Kind of reminds me of the military buying toilet seats for $1000 each.. But I'm sure the paint salesman (and toilet seat salesman) can perfectly justify a cost of more than what I paid for the whole car..

Ppg has a tight hold of their distribution.  If you want to use another brand or two stage, you can save money.  The dealer I went through is the only place to buy it in central Florida.

My tcs is painted with concept single stage, and after 5 years, it still looks perfect, which is why I paid the money.

Your choice, but for me, after a year of labor, it makes sense to use what you know.

Btw, I paid retail since I am not a pro with the pro discount.
