Amen. Shooting color takes a couple hours. Prepping can take months.
Months? That kid rebuilding his Europa on YouTube video used the sun and a heat gun to peel all the layers of paint (including the original paint) from the car in one or two days. With the heat, it came off in big sheets. I actually never knew original paint could be removed that easily.

120 grit on an orbital works, too. Now...pinholes, star cracks, sanding down, priming, finding more voids, filling, smoothing, priming, repeat...then let sit in the sun for a few days to bake it...
Depends I guess on what level of job: good enough so it looks good...or local/regional shows with pride...or pebble beach. Done the first two, no patience for the last...thinking I'm going to shoot for somewhere on this one between the first two. Don't discount a good sand-and-squirt if you prep the existing (and mine has the original nitrocellulose lacquer finish...) well. Especially because I want to end up with a driver, not a trailer queen...
