original fuse box issues
« on: Wednesday,October 13, 2021, 03:06:11 PM »
i bought an original fuse box cause the other one was falling apart
now sometimes the power goes through sometimes it doesn’t
the bottom fuse i notice right away cause the gauges stop working
the one that bothers me is the top one for the fan i tried cleaning them even scratching them with sandpaper the contact is not regular is there a solution to this or should i just install another type of fuse box i would like to keep the same terminas on the wires if possible

The later, riveted ones get very dodgy as they age and corrode.  Those ones though usually are ok as long as the spring tabs don't fatigue.  Make sure the spring tabs are gripping tightly.  What fuses are you using?

The Lucas fuses are shorter and will better fit the tabs.  Still, it should work the way it is.  When it next doesn't conduct, don't wiggle anything.  Check it with a test light see where it "stops" so you can narrow down where the issue is.

it wasn’t the fuse box but rather intermittent fuse it looked ok visually but then tested with multimeter
noticed the end was loose and you can see in the picture it was touching on an off

Just a reminder: I don't know whether they use the British fuse rating system in Canada but be sure to replace your fuses with the proper British fuse rating. See the attached document.

Well, this is even more important to remind people of than finishing all the surfaces of a wood dash!  ;D

Old British cars are very much underfused, needs a larger fusebox or more fuse boxes to be safe
