torque settings

im gathering all info and steps in reassembly and for torque wrench settings for main bearings
it say 40 to 50 so how much am i suppose to put

I would torque it up to the higher number, so go for 50. I did.

i find it pretty confusing i was thinking more like in between 40 to 50 so 45 i was hoping for just one number

45 ft-lbs would work too. As 4129R said, tighter is probably better. I imagine it is an acknowledgement that torque wrenches are not all calibrated the same and that there is no single right number. You're stretching a bolt and you want acceptable and similar stretches for all of them.
