Great Memories, Certified Out.
« on: Friday,May 28, 2021, 04:36:24 AM »
Well guy's......its been 16 years of everything Lotus and it is coming to an end.

I will never forget my purchase of a 2006 Lotus Elise in fall of 2005 from Sports & Specialist Cars in Hopewell NJ. Special ordered the car all black with sport & touring pack, hardtop and Exige S LLS wheels (black of course). After driving the car for a couple of weeks my Porsche 993 was very lonely in the back of the garage feeling like it was replaced by something more interesting.......something that handled better......something that had telepathic steering......something that delivered a road driving experience that always put a smile on your face.

Sixteen years later I've been absorbed with all kinds of Lotus experiences, nine of them as a dedicated track rat. The last seven years was all about Elan and Europa restorations.
And then back to the fold with another 05 Elise.

I've met many wonderful Lotus owners over the years. Developed strong friendships with a lot of people from around the world. All of it was a great life experience and of all the car clubs and car communities I have belonged to, this one was my favorite.

Thank you to all that have had any impact in my Lotus life. I've enjoyed every minute.

I just sold my tastefully modified 05 Elise to a real sports car enthusiast and I'm leaving the Lotus world for good.

Retired last year, sold the house and garage workshop. Moving to a lake in the mountains of GA and will take up my other passion, boating. For those of you who don't know, I was an avid ocean sailor for a majority of my life. Anything boat oriented that put me on the water was a gift from heaven. I'm going back to my prior life and smiling the whole way.

This is a great community. Be happy to be part of it and enjoy everyone's company, knowledge and desire to learn more. Keep the faith, Lotus will continue to have a long history of developing unique sports cars that don't compare to anything else. Consider yourself lucky. I always did.

Best, Glen (AKA Certified Lotus)

Sorry to see you go, Certified, but I’m glad it seems everything is going to plan for you! You picked a nice place to end up. If you haven’t already, make sure you visit the Barber museum in between boating excursions.

I hope the rest of your life continues to go to plan. My best to you and yours!  :beerchug:

Hi Glen, never met you but avidly devoured your Europa thread while I was looking for one. Funnily enough I am now spending time in my garage after a two year trip from Lake Champlain to the Keys and Bahamas in my Tartan 37. Boat has again become our ‘lake house’   Fair wind and following seas, Exlimey.

Glen,
I want to add my best wishes for a happy and healthy retirement.  I was glad to meet you and check out the Europa as you were in the home stretch.  I too read your thread for details and motivation.

Be well, enjoy Georgia.  They have great motorcycle roads (and thereby Lotus roads) as I have ridden a bunch.

Cheers Glen. Enjoy the lake. All the best.
The Twin Cam plays the symphony whilst my right foot conducts the orchestra. At 3800 rpm the Mad Pipe Organ joins in.

Glen,
So sorry to see you depart, but also happy for you to follow your dreams.
The commitment and dedication to all your Lotus adventures have been a blessing for us to follow. I am grateful to have met you, and will always remember the Europa rear window install at you home. All the best to you and family.

Glen,

Sorry to see you leave the Lotus community but wishing you the best in retirement. Your restoration saga for the Twin Cam will be one of two gold standards for the Europa.

Glen - have a great time in retirement - every day is Saturday.  You now have a chance to live one of other my dreams - a live aboard catamaran on the blue water.

Glen, it was great meeting and sharing a beer or two with you a LOG a couple of years ago. Hopefully your brilliant resto thread of the TC will be a valuable resource for future generations of Europa enthusiasts. I know we talked about our shared love of scuba diving, but I can't believe I didn't know you are a sailor also. Maybe we'll catch up on the ocean someday.

Fair winds and enjoy your retirement!

Have a long and happy retirement Glen. Your restoration thread was one of the reasons I bit the bullet and bought my TCS.

Glen - I can quite understand the attraction of making "your life smaller" (I am close to this also), but 5 years of Forum input comprising 1672 posts represents a wealth of experience which would be a huge loss if we lost it - it would be good to know that you may opt to log on now and again, picking up on threads of your choice, just to point some of us way behind on our "Europa journeys" in the right direction. Notwithstanding this, and in any event, stay well.  :beerchug:

Glen, THANK YOU! you have been a great inspiration to us all. Please enjoy trading "4 wheels into which you pour money" to "a hole in the water into which you pour money". Now you have to keep the smooth polished side down. Have fun.

Glen,

Happy retirement to you! I hope our paths cross at some point. Don't be a stranger even if you don't have a Lotus!
