Well - if it were this side of the pond - I would say an indecent amount of money, and that's before you start spending even more money changing all that required to be able to install it in a Europa.  :)
But, and, I know I am old, (and miserable), but what is it with those boy racer blue/red (aeroquip?) fittings...???  :help: I mean, that's like looking at a beautiful woman - and then seeing she has a beard, no?

This is an interesting looking engine.  If you could verify its current state and hours that is one pricey build and you may get it for a steal.  Dry sump 9,000 rpm screamer!  Definitely suited to a 23 type car with light weight.  I have more than the current price ($4,400) into the bottom end of my Europa block and I already had the engine.
1974 Europa Special
1969 Europa S2
1970 Lotus Elan +2
1978 Austin Mini - 1275, big brakes
1991 Ford Explorer - Lifted on 33s, custom lift and radius arms
2005 Chrysler 300C - chipped, lowered 22s
2011 Cadillac Escalade - Stage 3 cam, Headers, CAI, 2,600 stall converter

It is very nicely built. The crank isn't mentioned. It would be nice to know whether it is steel or cast iron.

I assume the 1500cc displacement is dictated by the class it's expected to run in.  For a race engine, 173hp @ 8500rpm is a little lower than I would expect. It has a pretty flay torque curve so you probably could drive it on the street!

I expect it to go for substantially more than the $4400 it's showing now. We'll see... I'm watching it.

That seemed a bit high to me but I’m far from an expert. It would have been a lot better to have compression and/or leak down numbers even if cold. Having said all that, given the apparent attention to detail, I would expect it was a quality build.
