Handbrake Lever mounting - TC - Help Please

I need some help here please – the TCS I am rebuilding I, (foolishly), bought in pieces, so those “obvious” things on reassembly are not that “obvious” to me. I have searched the Forum and parts diagrams but cannot find the answer to this detail.
How is the lever mounted to the chassis? Please see photo’s
The lever and “pin” are shown cleaned, (they were seized solid), the mounting in the chassis is tapped 3/8” UNF and the lever boss obviously fits over this. But then I have the “pin” which is some 3” long and is tapped in a blind hole 3/8” UNF 20mm deep at one end and again a blind hole ¼” UNF and 12mm deep at the other.
What am I missing here? Or more to the point – what’s wrong?

Hi Dilkris,

I don't know what that drilled/taped pin is about.
The reaction lever is retained with a simple shoulder bolt & washer.

Here's a pic of the TCS arrangement for a left hand drive car.

I've been looking at my handbrake too, it seems that when the cable is taut the horseshoe touches the bottom of the coolant pipes, is that normal?

Interesting, mine run through the rear chassis below the coolant pipes in separate holes, one each side. Nothing in the hole where your cables run

My handbrake cables do too, from the two holes linked by a slit. They have to so the handbrake outer cable ferules can seat in the holes.

The two you see with the outer cables are the speedo and choke I believe (as it's from memory!).

I couldn't get the horseshoe to sit above, or below the pipes, though I have not removed and refitted it to try. The consensus seemed to be that its unlikely to wear through the pipes before they rust!

One of these mounted above the coolant pipes would make adjustments so much easier.
