Scrap Yard visit, and Lotus sighting
« on: Saturday,October 31, 2020, 06:24:25 PM »
On the way to check out a scrap yard for some steel, spotted this Lotus nearby. The scrap yard will get another visit. 26 acres of 'scrap', lots of interesting 'stuff'

I rode in the backseat of a “new” Elite. I was very impressed! I was 6’2” and I was very comfortable! It was a much cooler car than its reputation.

I always considered the original Elite to be the prettiest Lotus, and the new Elite to be, well, the other end of the spectrum.

Now I know where AMC got the Gremlin styling.

I don't know if all the isolation has affected me more than I believe it to, but I recently have had a strange desire to own one of these. I want to sell my father's 2005 Nissan Altima without his consent and replace with a Lotus Elite series 2... It will be even better because my dad is the antithesis of a "car guy". To have an awkward elderly doctor in the most shagtastic station wagon of all time is deviously hilarious to me.

I guess I’m part of a minority, but I kind of liked the way it looked. What elderly doctor wouldn’t want to ride in a prettier Gremlin?

  I think it’s a Triumph TR7 and a Gremlin Baby.

I always had a soft spot for these, too. When ever these come up for sale they are very cheap, so I'm kind of worried one will follow me home someday. And though the looks are polarising, they have one of the coolest wheels ever made.
The Twin Cam plays the symphony whilst my right foot conducts the orchestra. At 3800 rpm the Mad Pipe Organ joins in.

I like them too. I have always loved the shooting brake look and regrettably there are so few cars in this space. The bulk of them seem to by 4cyl FWD so anything RWD is automatically cool. Its too bad there aren't more old v8 and v12 cars in this style

My brother is in the process of goading me into buying an Elite together and doing it up for him. I do like them but I’m trying to persuade him that an Excel will be a better proposition.  The yellow one doesn’t look too bad. They must be rare in in the US and Canada.
