It’s alive  :trophy: :beerchug: :pirate: !

Started the day off fixing carb flooding … bench checked it with pump running for 5 minutes with no issue.
Reinstalled my fuel pumps as I wanted to make sure there were no leaks there either (great fun to reinstall  :-\)

And it started up and ran for about 30 seconds, restarted and then wouldn’t restart …. Head scratching ensued …. Checked several things over and ended it up the plugs fouled from all the oil in the cylinders from assembly … cleaned them and ran it for several minutes  8)

I have a video my phone but no idea how to post it?

( Note to future me - .062” bypass is 2 & 2.5psi, .077” bypass is 1.5 & 2psi)

Congratulations indeed!  A LOT of work and soon to be well rewarded.

Fuel pump:

If I understand correctly, you are using a metered bleed to lower your fuel pressure.  If you are getting the "correct" pressure in a no load situation, your pump is definitely not going to keep up when that turbo kicks in.

I happen to agree with JB regarding fuel pressure regulation.

Pressure regulation by a fixed orifice only works if there is a steady-state condition.

When variable volume is needed to compensate for variable rpm and load, a fixed orifice is not what you want.  ....That is why  regulators for gases and liquids are spring-loaded.

A regulator can be installed with, or without, a bypass.

I had inconsistent results with the cheap dial-type regulators.   ....I bought that Holley pressure regulator and that maintained the desired fuel pressure under variable flow conditions.   ....Did you consider using that, or check to see if it is compatible with ethanol gas?

A second pump comes on at 4lbs of boost ……I have an AFR gauge that will be closely watched too.

The main goal was to get it running, I bought a regulator that was a piece of junk, will pursue a better one.

Thanks for the comments CW & JB! Not sure I would trust the 50 year old one!

Working on a permanent solution to my fuel bypass setup. Decided to start prepping my “decent” dash as it needs a little repair work and will probably re-clear it. Decided to pull the crummy original as I bought a new DB10 lighting relay, voltage stabilizer for the gauges and washer pump and figured I should check out the heater core as first drive will probably be in cold weather  8) Removing the demist bezels without removing the windshield was challenging! I have a new windshield but do not want to install it until bodywork is completed.

You're going to have to show me pictures of the screwdrivers (or give detailed instructions) you used to take the demist bezels off before I'll believe you did it with the windshield in place!

It looks really nice turbo . Definitely re-clear it, even the backside. I can't imagine installing a radio, but love siding toward original. Hat's off to you.
It may be beneficial to add a little extensions to the the DB-10 wiring. Also think about some other solution for the steering wheel mount. I HATE TIGHTENING THOSE NUTS.  :FUNNY:  BUT TRUE.

For tight jobs like these, I got a 'proper' chinesium implement for about $A4.00.
Yet to be tried on the demister bezels but the S2 ones aren't as high as the TCS ones, I think.

You're going to have to show me pictures of the screwdrivers (or give detailed instructions) you used to take the demist bezels off before I'll believe you did it with the windshield in place!

Jerry Johnson (of founder of lotus-europa.com fame) did it by cutting down a philips bit and welding it on to the end of a paint scraper.  It's doable, but fiddly.

I don't remember exactly but I have a strong feeling that when I built my car, I used screws that were much to long to take out with the windshield in place. I guess I figured it was a lost cause... sigh... :o

The screws are longer than they need to be!
