1968 S1A (Type 46) for sale in France
« on: Monday,August 10, 2020, 10:51:56 PM »
Hello all,

There is a 1968 S1A Type 46 for sale in France (29,500 Euros) with some good accompanying photographs - I really like the front indicator units!

Great looking S1. $34,800 US. $46,250 CDN. Should help elevate all Europa values.

This is actually cheap for Europa standards in Europe. Here in Germany they want that amount of money for an ok condition S2. I don’t think that this car will be for sale for long.

There were two S1 cars at a high-end classic car dealers in France in recent years (Autodrome, Paris)
The yellow S1 was bought and is now in the UK - I believe it is the example featured in the September/October edition of 'Absolute Lotus' magazine.

The 2nd was another metallic green car (originally Cirrus White) it was much like the car advertised above and at a similar price. It has now sold but I don't know where it has gone.
here's a link to some photographs of it:

The 'Absolute Lotus' S1 is indeed the yellow Autodrome car from France. The green S1 has been sold to Germany.
The collectors that are looking for an early Europa do prefer the S1 (first 300 produced) and original condition. So the advertised S1A is less attractive. But it looks like a fine car.

I really like the aluminium dashboard found in the first <300 S1 cars but I do like S1A as it has the pop-in/out removable windows (and it still has the beautiful carello rear light units!)  8)

I like the S1A a lot too, in fact I've owned and driven one for 15 years. The idea to make the side window detachable and store it in a slot in the door is just another of those weird Chapman ideas which I like a lot.

I may be mistaken but I have seen glass windows for sale for the S1A? (I'm not sure if that's just the 'quarter-light' or the detachable side window)

I have seen glass, one piece, door windows for the S1, not the S1a.  The "auto-eject" door windows on the S1a/b would become absolutely lethal if they were glass!

"auto-eject"  :FUNNY:

that makes sense - that it's the fixed, one piece glass for an S1....
