Help with wiring as im going crazzy
« on: Friday,August 07, 2020, 05:29:51 AM »
So for the past weeks i have been trying to get my lights working again after taking everything down without taking pictures!
Ive recived my plate numbers and xant drive the car becaouse i cant figure out the wiring... none of the diagrams seme to fit my car!
Its a switzerland car... i have clear front indicators with 3 wires:
Black(earth on nut screw) red and green on each side
My harness has one red wire-3 entry points
Black-4 entry points
Green red- 3 entry points
Green white 3 entry points
And headlights witch are the usual colors and work!
Im not sure if my side indicators( i only have them on the front not the rear) should blink with the turn signals or stay on like in the US!
If i switch the wires somehow i get the turn signals working but not as they should!
I need a diagram that has front indicators front aide indicators but no rear side indicators!
My car is a swis car from 1970.. 1470 cc engine
Most probaly made in 69!
I cant get the front indicators to wok as turn signal and side/parking lights as they should
Bulbs have 2 contacts and 2 positions so my parking lights should definatly be in the front small white indicators
Any help?

Can you explain what is happening when "If i switch the wires somehow i get the turn signals working but not as they should".  What lights and what doesn't? Not flashing an issue?

If the side lights are like this:

Then they are signal repeaters.

If they re like this:

Then they are side marker lights hooked to the park circuit.

My original ones have bulbs.. bought replacements from Sj
First ones so they should be repeaters/turn signals!
I inversed some wires in the back and got the turn signal working but i was told the rong bulb was working
I had the rear turn signal lighting in the red area of the lamp not the yelow one!
Pictures in link

On the current configuration i have turn signals working in the front both in the front indicators and side ones but no parking lights/side lights witch should also be in the front indicators

And a second video that shows the bulb flashing
https://youtu.be/4YsbUyRwF1U
I only have side turn signals in the front not the back
All the diagrams i found has them both in the front or back and are markers not signals
Also those diagrams have the front parking lights inaide the headlights and no front indicators
Only the diagram for the Federal has the front indicators with park lights but has a difrent wiring for the side ones as they are markers

OK, the front, side lights are signal repeaters.  Your videos shown them operating correctly.

At the back, you have the signals hooked to the park/brake light bulb.  It should be hooked to the bulb behind the amber lens.

At the front, clear, round unit, you have the signals hooked to the park light wire.

The wires in the harness are straight forward

black = ground
red = park lights
green/white = right signal
green/red = left signal
green/purple = brake light
green/brown = reverse light

The wires at the light units themselves may not follow the same logic.  Sometimes the red wire is park, sometimes brake.  I would test the light units so you know which wire feeds which light.  Go to an auto parts store and get long test leads like this:

Get them really long, like 2 metres.  You can also just make them up.  Getting them long will make them more useful for future testing.  Now hook them to the battery and you can test each light unit to see which wire colour does what.

At the same time buy a 12v test light with an incandescent bulb (not LED).  This will also be very useful.

As JB said, the colors of the wires are very helpful because Lucas developed a color standard. This link might be helpful: https://www.triumphexp.com/article/lucas-wiring-colour-guide.50

Will do a test tomorow before the electrician comes
If it works at least i will save some money
Strange thing is that i made pictures for the left rear side before taking them out... the wires are now comnected just as they originaly was except for the earth ....
And the rong bulb is flashing...

First, I would clean off your wires with some gentle degreaser or cleaner so you don't clean any color tracers off the insulation.
Then, all black wires should be grounds so they should eventually be connected to some clean metal.
In your second picture, the green/purple wire deserves a better connection than the picture shows.
Here's a copy of the wiring diagram: http://lotus-europa.com/manuals/misc/electrical/s2-diagc.gif.
I think that you pretty much match color for color between the lamp and the harness. The exception (according to the wiring diagram) is on the right hand lamp, the green wire should connect to a green/white wire on the harness. (from that, I assume that the green wire from the lamp is a "generic" green wire presumably because the manufacturer could not predict which side of the car the lamp would be mounted. if that is the case, the indicator light in the left hand lamp may be green also in which case that should be connected to the green/red wire in the harness.)
One thing that might confuse you is the green/purple wire from the right hand lamp connects to two green/purple wires in the harness - one of which goes to the left hand lamp and the other goes stop switch.
I think if you stare at the wiring diagram, the lucas wiring color standard, the wires in your harness and the wires in your lamps, you'll be able to figure it out. JB's suggestion for getting some test lamps leads can help a lot if colors are not well preserved. In any case, don't feel shy about asking more questions!

Good luck!
