Lotus Europa S2 History of production
« on: Wednesday,July 15, 2020, 04:11:53 PM »
hello guys
As my Europa is almoust ready i would like to take some time and learn more about the history of the car!
I suspect mine was a 1969 altough the papers say 1970
As ive read the 1470 cc was only produced in 69..maybe im mistaking?
Does anybody know how many S2 where produced with the 1470 cc engine?
Also i could not find any info on how many LHD vs RHD where made ... for example mine was sold under the Europe name to Switzerland
Im wondering what info you guys may have on models and production beside the typical google results

You'll find production information for the various Europa configurations at http://lotus-europa.com/regs2.html. If you're lucky, you'll even find information about your own car. Lotus-Europa.com has not been updated in five years, but the information it contains is still good.

The S2 had two variants the Type 54 and the Type 65. All Type 65(Fed-Spec) had the larger 1565 cc engine while nearly all of Type 54 had the 1470 cc engine with the exception of a couple of hundred early Fed-Spec Type 54 that were sent to the North American Market in Mid-to late 1969. I am not sure about the Canadian-Spec Type 54 concerning which engine it had.

I was under the impression that type54 came with 2 versions of the Renaul Engine
1470 and 1565 cc before the type 65 apeared

Luciano: Check out this link      http://lotus-europa.com/manuals/misc/engine/renault_data.html

The only Type 54 with the 1565 engine was the Fed-Spec Type 54 (about 200) which preceded the Type 65. Type 54 Europas were built until at least March of 1971 if not later when Domestic Twin Cam production began September of 1971.

You also might want to check out the different Type 54 variants on this site:

" the Canadian-Spec Type 54 concerning which engine it had."

HI:
I have a 54(Canadian) and it has the 1470.
I have a 807 waiting but the 1407 only has 35K on it.
