Ammeter wiring
« on: Thursday,May 14, 2020, 01:38:18 PM »
Can anyone advise me how the ammeter is wired up? Someone took it to bits and forgot to photograph it. I know the two very thick wires go to the two terminals at the back, and the blue/brown  wire connects to a 'bolt on' male spade terminal, and the white/brown wire connects to the other bolt on male spade terminal.
What's troubling me is there seems to be some kind of insulating arrangement for one of the 'bolt on' spade terminals.
Also according to the wiring diagram three wires go to one terminal on the ammeter and only one goes to the other. I dont think this is how mine was wired up.I'm looking at the Twin cam UK diagram as it's a UK car.
And it was all going so well..

For the ammeter to register power being used, the 3 must be fitted to the out side of the ammeter, or it will show negative drain.

Quite which is the out side you will have to find by trial and error. I would suggest as you look at the gauge, the right terminal logically should be the out side. Check to make sure the lead from the alternator is connected to the in side. This should be the brown with a white trace I believe.

Pictures, we love pictures!  What were the other wires going to? What about this insulating arrangement?

Tried to post a picture of the dash but it says the file is too large.
I'll have to describe it.  It looks all lovely, just like new.
(will ask wife if I can zip the photo or something, not good with computers)

Very nice.  How do you stop the little Europa from ending up in the footwell during spirited cornering?
