S2 series two badge location
« on: Saturday,December 28, 2019, 03:36:49 PM »
While installing my badges I located the original holes on the right side however the left side were hidden. Here is how I went about transferring the location to the left.
Picture 1- On a 48 in long sheet  taped to the right side sitting on the crease of the fender transferee         the holes o the paper.
Picture 2- creased the forward edge into the door jamb, marked the 90 degree point.
Picture 3- shows location of holes on sheet
Picture 4- transfer sheet to left side, inversed, and taped in place with the crease mark in the same place as right and sitting on the crease in the fender.
Picture 5- Drilled holes and mounted badge.
Picture 6 /7 - dimensions to center line of holes.

Hope your still awake and hope it can help others in the future.

Good work. It is amazing how fixated we can get on small details.  But you  know no one will ever be able to see both sides at the same time  so  comparisons are impossible.

Hey Gary T , A guess that was the po’s thought when he put the fender flares on with a 2” difference for and aft. I had to cut off one side , it drove me crazy. To many years of mechanical drawing also.
The main reason is so others will have a good reference point for there build.

Don't park in front of a window or mirror! Might drive everyone crazy.

The difficult question is: "Does the S2 badge go on the right side or the left?" I believe it goes on the left but someone here will have a period photo.

Bob you are absolutely correct . There is only 1 S2 badge on an S2 per the manual .
Live and learn. Items 29/30 and 31. On picture

I found some period pictures of S2’s . The older advertisers pictures show an S2 badge on the right side . Other owners may have added them like myself. Another answer is maybe the tech writers had a bad day and didn’t get out of the office. The drawing only shows 1 because the engine over is covering the right side of the car.

Maybe it is also possible that the decal was on the drivers side, so lefthanddrive on the left,
Righthanddrive on the right.
Mr Chapman was not only reducing weight but was also known as being cost avoiding.
Maybe that can be a reason using one badge, or they just had not enough badges?

But is that an S2 badge on the right? I've looked at a few old photos of. my car and the resolution isn't good enough to tell. The badge on the right side of my car--and I think it's on the correct side--says "World Champion Car Constructors" with the year in three laurel wreaths underneath: 1963, 1965 and 1968 in my case. It's the same shape as the S2 badge. I had the badges off for a respray in 1989. It's possible I put them back on the wrong sides but I'm more likely to have put them back the way they came off.

I found another nice s2 with excellent quality pics showing two s2 badges .  I’m keeping to just the s2 badge or badges.
Maybe we need a show of hands  tech writers incorrect , or a original S2 owner to chime in .

Gary, I took this topic to Instagram andirons has taken off.
The badges seem to have changed yearly. The championship 63/65 were on the left side also.
There is no documentation of any badge on the right side of vehicle.
The S2 showed up when the added 1970 world championship badge came out behind the drivers left window.
People all over are adding information , I’ll pass it on ASAP.

OK, I've had my 1970-registered Type 54 from new. It was made in late 1969 and shipped to Canada in the spring of 1970. It's always had the S2 badge on one rear fender and the top "World Champion" badge shown in dazakman's post just above on the other. I think the S2 badge belongs on the left side but I can't be certain.
