Hi, I’m Sean and I’m new
« on: Wednesday,October 02, 2019, 06:03:49 AM »
Hi guys! I recently picked up my first Europa. I’ve restored several other cars in the past, but never a Lotus. I’m looking forward to the adventure. I’ve been posting some progress over on instagram mostly to encourage myself to take some pictures to keep track. Somebody suggested that I should check out this forum so here I am.

 :Welcome: Sean from Moose Jaw!

Nice S1. Those are turning out to be the most sought after Europas. How about more some pics of the car?

You will find this forum very friendly and helpful. There seems to be a significant number of Europas in western Canada, including S1 expert JB who will surely introduce himself at some point.

 :Welcome: Sean!

You're right that this will a great adventure! At the end will be a car that will probably be one of the best rides you've ever had!

We'd love to see more pictures and learn anything you know about your baby! Since you have an S1, if it hasn't been done already, I'd plan on a body-off restoration. Are you going to keep it stock or are you planning some modifications?

Sean,
Welcome!  I think your car was briefly discussed on the Yahoo group.  It's an early S2, correct?

:Welcome: I don't think you could find a better place for insight into the Europa than this forum and also a lot of great guys and friends who share the same passion.  Your Europa looks just like the one on the Avengers.   :trophy:

 :Welcome:

Sean, I’m going with an early S2 since you have electric windows. It looks like you have some engine work to do also. I’m doing a frame off on a federal S2 an have received tons of answers to all of my questions, do ask away.
We also love pictures. it will benefit you to post them here to help you reassemble your baby and read about your progress.

Thanks for the nice welcome. You guys are very friendly. Anyways it is an early S2 as some have noted. I’ve been pretty busy over the last month since I got it and have it all stripped down and just finished painting the chassis. I just confirmed with Andy Graham at Lotus and mine is the 5th S2 delivered to Canada in June of 1968.

Change the heater tubes while you are in there.  Yes, they don't leak now but...  Don't ask me how I know.  Fitting them after everything is together, and add in AC and oil cooler pipes and a cable shifter, is not fun!

Fit new coolant tubes as well.

50 plus years old ... the cooling tubes need to be replaced as JB stated. I removed my tubes, sections of the run failed a tap test.  I tapped with a pointed chisel with my hand and liners he point went thru the metal. I bit the bullet and purchased the stainless steel set.

Hi Sean,
Nice to see another Canadian on the forum.  You car looks like a fun project and an early S2 is always nice.  Your Instagram page looks good I gave it a follow.  The group around here are very knowledgeable and very quick to respond it is a cool community.
