S1 Oddie fasteners
« on: Saturday,August 24, 2019, 02:30:51 AM »
My S1 is missing its Oddie fastener pins. The early S1 had those fasteners to fix the boot and the bonnet. The engine lid is fixed with two quarter turn pins and the bonnet is closed with two locks operating the pins. With the introduction of the S1A they were replaced with centrally positioned conventional locks.

Does anybody know of a source where I can get those pins? I tried to contact the still existing Oddie company but got no reply to my mails.

I am looking for the same. One of the forum members hand made a set that turned out very nice and I tried to convince him to make another set for me, but never got them. If you find a source let me know as I would also like a pair for my car.

   I think Serge made a set and posted a video.

A close alternative is a dzus fasteners. ( correct spelling)  Do a search on Google.

Good find Gideon,
  The plates are extra X046B6044Z.
A little pricey for each.

Pip pins fit in the cups quite well and you can get various lengths - I'm sure I've seen a locking version but can't find any ATM... they just push in rather than being quarter turn though.
Link to some here;

Used to fit them in the cups to hold the front bonnet and engine covers on the race cars at Banks (I have dzus quarter turn fasteners fitted into the cups on mine but they are short in comparison to the Oddie ones).

Another neat solution is these;

I appreciate that neither of the above are like the originals but if you can't get any they may be a good alternative?

Thanks for all the tips, highly appreciated. I'm really looking for the original parts only. The hint from gideon is spot on, I didn't new that SJS are offering them. I will try to order from them and report back if they are available and if they do fit.

As suspected by me the Oddie fasteners are not available by SJS and the order has been cancelled. That is at least the third time I tried to order parts from them twhic they list as 'in stock' but they could not deliver. Very disappointing.

So the search for some Oddie fasteners continues.

Kelvedon lists the plates.  Oddie still makes the pins and receptacles:

Even a locking pin is available, though only one length.

@jbcollier: Fortunately the plates are still with the car so I don't need them. Banks seems to offer them too. I tried to contact the Oddie company several times but got no reply. The shown locking pin has a very modern styled key that doesn't suits the car.

Obviously it is rather difficult to get those pins as there is no one chiming in who actually bought some pins. Looks like I have to get creative and build something on my own.

British motorcycles used them as well and Jag XK120s had them for their battery box cover.  They all use a slotted head but it would be very easy to silver-solder on a wing.

Longer pins (and easily modify-able):

And here’s another supplier:

Remember though that you only want a few pins and these companies will usually supply in minimum order quantities in the 100s.

And another source fir the studs:

https://www.britishbikebits.com/side-panels/oddie-studs

It would be easy to section the 1 1/4” stud and make it any length you require.
