Lower engine backplate
« on: Thursday,July 04, 2019, 10:08:17 AM »
Seems I have a bell housing on my 352 Transaxle that has a different bolt pattern for the Lower back plate I have. Not sure how that happened. Must have mixed up some parts when I sold a bunch of stuff.

Never the less, anyone have a lower backplate for sale (or trade) that will fit my bell housing? (RD’s Lower backplate is the same as I have).

Looks like mine. Why do you think it's the wrong part? Not all holes are used. In fact IIRC, only one hole for a 1/4" bolt is used on my car.

edit: near the bottom of the bell housing, there is a 1/4-20 hole that takes the bolt I'm talking about.

Exactly BDA, only one bolt hole lines up. My Elan S1 bell housing has the same hole locations as this lower back plate. But the Europa is different. There must be a different type of back plate?

Yep, only one hole lines up. See edit in previous post.

Only one hole in the plate is used, but my car, 2345R, has a bolt in the bellhousing hole that's partly covered in your second photo, and traps the plate with the aid of a flat washer.
I think I would take a Dremel to that little point so you could get a bolt in there.

Amazing there is no specific bottom plate for this bell housing. I will bolt in the one I have and use Roger's suggestion of removing the metal "ear" on the top plate to thread in a bolt and washer to hold the bottom plate in a little better.
