Lotus Europa for sale: SCAM!
« on: Sunday,January 20, 2019, 02:06:39 PM »
https://cars.trovit.com/listing/1973-lotus-europa.1H4dYi81Q1c?trv_cid=6b602586a47288e5bea6cd6388d94555a8de6d5a

This car was last listed in both Hemmings and eBay at $29,995 and was originally listed at $49,995 till it kept dropping to the $29,995 figure.  The car was advertised by a Massachusetts dealer.  Now it is listed at $15,500 and the location: Miami, FL.  It is also listed on usclassified4all.com for that price with a number of other Lotuses at suspiciously low prices like an 1964 S1 Elan in great shape for $14,000, a 1997 Esprit V8 listed as unbelievable condition for $18,000.

Correction on the numbers.  The 1964 Elan S1 is $16,850, a 1967 Elan Coupe $14,400, and the 1997 Esprit $19,500.  Something isn't quite right!

It seems I remember a guy on this forum (I believe he lived in England) who tried to buy a Europa and got ripped off. I even seem to remember that the car was supposed to be in Miami but I have to admit that my memory might be very faulty. If he's still around, maybe he can provide any clues about whether we might be talking about the same seller (thief).

That was me.

The bar steward ripped me off for $10,800.

He advertised as Hollywood Rolls Royce or something like that. He kept promising to ship the car, came up with all sorts of excuses, then stopped replying to emails, and the local law enforcement in Miami were not the slightest bit interested.

He had previous and had done time.

He has sold loads of RR spares and not delivered so several purchasers got together and took action to put him behind bars.

radicalrideshollywood@gmail.com was his email address then.

Here is some of his B/S.

I'M SORRY. I CANNOT ACCEPT SUCH LARGE PAYMENTS THROUGH PAYPAL. IN THE U.S. PAYPAL CHARGES US A LARGER FEE FOR INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS. IN THIS CASE, IT WOULD AMOUNT TO OVER $1,000 IN PAYPAL FEES THEY WOULD AUTOMATICALLY DEDUCT FROM THE AMOUNT RECEIVED FROM YOU. MORE IMPORTANTLY, PAYPAL ALSO PUTS A 21-DAY HOLD ON AMOUNTS THAT ARE OVER $1,000. ONCE PAYPAL RELEASES THE MONEY, IT STILL TAKES UP TO 5 BUSINESS DAYS FOR IT TO ARRIVE AT MY BANK. THAT MEANS I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO RELEASE THE VEHICLE UNTIL AFTER THE 21-DAY HOLD, - &, UP TO 5 DAYS BEYOND THAT. AS IT STANDS NOW, I HAVE TRANSPORT INSIDE AN ENCLOSED SHIPPING CONTAINER LEAVING HERE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. IF I HAVE TO WAIT FOR SOMETHING LIKE 25 -30 DAYS TO CONFIRM PAYPAL PAYMENT, WE WOULD BOTH MISS THE SHIP. LITERALLY. IN AMERICA, WE NORMALLY CONDUCT A SALE SUCH AS THIS BY ACCEPTING A MINIMAL DEPOSIT THROUGH PAYPAL EXACTLY AS WE HAVE DONE, THEN, THE QUICKEST AND SAFEST WAY IS TO COMPLETE THE SALE WITH A SIMPLE BANK WIRE OF THE FINAL AMOUNT. THIS WAY, THE CAR & TITLE CAN BE SHIPPED QUICKLY & WITHOUT TIME DELAYS AND OTHER STORAGE RELATED EXPENSES. THIS METHOD IS PREFERABLE TO ALL CONCERNED. I BELIEVE YOUR BANK WILL ONLY CHARGE YOU A 30 Lb. BANK WIRE FEE. THAT AMOUNT IS MUCH BETTER THAN HAVING TO REIMBURSE ME AN EXTRA $1,000 TO COMPENSATE ME FOR THE LOSS OF PAYPAL FEES THEY TAKE FROM THE SALE PRICE OF YOUR CAR. I HAVE ALERTED THE SHIPPER OF THE CONTAINER TO "HOLD" A SPOT ON HIS CONTAINER FOR YOUR CAR. HE CONFIRMS THE PRICE IN THE $900 TO $1,000 PRICE RANGE. HE IS WAITING FOR ME TO GIVE HIM EXACT DIMENSIONS OF THE CAR AS WELL AS WEIGHT BEFORE HE CAN GIVE AN EXACT PRICE. I WILL MEASURE THE CAR TOMORROW. I WILL CALL HIM WITH THE EXACT DIMENSIONS FOR FULLY CONFIRMED PRICE TO FELEXSTOWE. AS I MENTIONED, HIS WAREHOUSE IS 2.5 MILES FROM YOUR LOCATION ACROSS FROM THE LOTUS FACTORY. I'M SURE ALL WILL BE A GREAT SUCCESS. MY BANK IS CHASE - ROLLS-ROYCE HOLLYWOOD, INC..GET BACK TO ME FOR THE WIRE INFO. CHEERS.

- radrideshollywood

THE BANK WIRE INFORMATION IS AS FOLLOWS:

ACCOUNT NAME - ROLLS-ROYCE RESTORATIONS OF HOLLYWOOD, INC.

ACCOUNT # - 663850852.  CHASE BANK.

ROUTING # - 2670844131.

MY LOCAL BRANCH IS: 6529 NOVA DRIVE.  DAVIE, FLORIDA  33317.   THE PHONE # IS 954.370.3463.

MORE IMPORTANT WITH AN INTERNATIONAL BANK WIRE IS AS FOLLOWS:

THE INTERNATIONAL SWIFT CODE IS: - CHASUS33.  J.P. MORGAN CHASE BANK.  THEIR ADDRESS IS: - 270 PARK AVE.  N.Y., NEW YORK.  10017.  THE PHONE # IS: 800.242.7338.

THANKS.  LET ME KNOW WHEN THE WIRE IS FINISHED & GIVE ME THE CONFIRMATION # SO I CAN KEEP ON TOP OF MY BANK TO ALERT ME WHEN THE WIRE COMES IN.

WHEN I GET BACK TO MY SHOP IN THE MORNING I WILL SEND YOU A COPY OF THE TITLE.  THE TRANSPORTERS WILL NEED THE ORIGINAL I BELIEVE, BUT WILL CHECK TO MAKE SURE.  IN THE MORNING I WILL ALSO MEASURE THE CAR FOR ALL PERTINENT DIMENSIONS FOR THE CONTAINER AND SHIPMENT.  CHEERS!

I don't know if you filed a report with the FBI, but here is the link for internet fraud cases.

I filed a complaint with both the FBI and the local sheriff and neither even replied to my emails.

His name was Steve Cannon.

The Florida Attorney General's office could not help.

He advertised by both eBay and Craig's List.

Here is another Lotus Europa listed on two different sites and locations.  One price is $21,000 and on the other site $12,600

when you see obviously fraudulent listings like these.... PLEASE hit the "report listing" button, or "prohibited" on Craigslist.
when others do this, it flags the site to remove it.
DO YOUR PART to remove scammers from the internet listings.

Steve Cannon has quite a history of ripping people off.

https://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/steve-cannon/fort-lauderdale-florida-33334/steve-cannon-stevew-cannon-and-von-cannon-rolls-royce-parts-do-not-send-money-to-this-bus-610352

I fear that I only found out about this low-life after I had parted with heaps of $.

If he rears his ugly head again, I have all the info to add to his list of crimes, but I am trying to forget my gullibility.

The shippers CF Rinkens say for a small sum, they will pay the seller on collection.

Well worth the extra.

I know it’s too late for advice, but I always do a google search on people I am going to conduct any business with and after their name I add, lawsuit, arrested, DUI, convicted, court hearing, rip off. You get the idea.
