Happy to report it is just some bored guy in the northeast US, snowed-in with Photoshop. No sacrilege has been committed.

Around '72. There was a Dodge Challenger the was modified much the same way running around Charlotte. It did have a small "hatchback" window, much like a Volvo 1800. Actually, looked pretty good.

As owners we sometimes get kidded...Yea, it does look like a bread van...

Well back in 64...Inspired by the Drago designed italian version 250...

 A type 11 was modified and raced at Goodwood to finish 2nd in class. The panels/roof were added, and the boxed out rear effect worked like a charm. It has returned to it's former glory and raced again at Goodwood, and finished second in class again.

So, if you ever get ribbed that your ride should be making a delivery...tell 'em this tale

Aerodynamically the blunt ended stationwagon/shooting brake apparently made some sense. At speed the tapered rear end of a “fastback” would have to be ridiculously long to reduce the turbulence created by the car’s outline. The “bread van” shape just reduced the surface area of the vehicle.

Famously this trick was also attempted in yacht design. The 1974 America’s Cup 12 meter Mariner built for Ted Turner had a squared-off stern below the waterline in an attempt to reduce laminar flow wetted surface area. It failed miserably causing Turner to chastise designer Britton Chance, “For Christ’s sake Brit, even a turd is pointed at both ends!”
