Lettering
« on: Sunday,December 16, 2018, 11:25:52 AM »
I have looked at photos and some seem like they are mounted differently, so does anyone know the spacing for the letters on the boot and the S2 logo on the rear wheel arches. All my locating holes were filled when it was resprayed.

If i have learned one thing from British auto assembly plants; it's that whatever you like is what you get.  The S on my Cooper is slanted. I've been told it's factory but there is no rhyme or reason.  Based on the value of Europas, I'd do what YOU like.

Centres of the 5 letters are 190mm apart.

Hi John ,
Do a search on lotus lettering or search dakazman , I just recently gave out those dimensions.
The s2 emblem is approximately 6 inches down and centered 9 inches forward from back of panel in that same plane. You may be able to see the filler material on the engine compartment side just aft of the wheel well which is where to anchor go.

Found it

I have a 1970 S2?. My mount holes for the rear lid are all at 1 3/4 down from forward lip.
The T is centered directly above the lock assembly.
The L top mount hole is 3 5/8 from edge
The o top mount hole is 11 3/8 from edge.
The T should be at 19 inches and confirm centerline.
The U is 26 5/8
The S is 34 inches with 3 3/4 remaining to other edge.

The bottom mount hole are not direct below top except for the T.

Wow, thanks for that info, my plan is to draw the holes in autocad and tape the template to the boot lid, but now i will need to measure the offset of the holes on the L,U & S as there is not much room for error. Keep me informed on the manifold i can chase them from here. Have a good Christmas.

What size are the holes for the LOTUS letters.  I have the retaining clips from RD ent.  They are 3/32” but should the holes in the body be the same.  Mine are filled with paint.    Tom

Hi Tom,
Do you have the individual letters ? Match the drill bit to the stud size, you should be good to go.

The letters should be a press fit into plastic cups set in holes in the fibreglass. These are available from Banks and are about 4mm in diameter.

They are "condom" shaped.

Hi John,
I used the measurements that Dave has kindly provided and it looks good. I did get a small amount of paint chipping so drill carefully.

I doubt you got more chipping that the factory did on many of the cars.

Congratulations on a job well done!  :beerchug:

Mhmm, I was going to drill a 2 mm hole and put a star washer on the locating pin after I had tried my template on a sheet of plywood, so maybe I will masking tape first to try and stop the paint chipping. Wife is still in therapy after finding out the cost of the respray.

My resprays are costing around £6300 + VAT.

They take them back to complete bare fibreglass, all paint off.

Ex Lotus employees in Norfolk.

They are currently on #6 for me.

They do everything, inside and out.

If you use a dremmel with a needle grinder tip thru the tape it will minimize chipping of paint.
Not a drill bit.

That is almost half the price of what it costs in the US.
