Europa Twin Came sports car of the year
« on: Saturday,November 03, 2018, 12:28:33 PM »
I wrote up my interview notes from a very pleasant lunch I had with Mike Kimberley and Oliver Winterbottom when we discussed their roles in developing the Twin Cam Europa for my Europa book and they mentioned it had won a sports or GT car of the year award. I've rummaged through my library and the interweb but can't find any details - which award was it, when was it etc.
So I'm throwing myself on the mercy of the forum where I have no doubt the answer is known and very obvious....
Anyone got any details?
Looking forwards to being deluged  :)
Matt

Sorry, no idea.  Lots of industry and magazine awards back then that don't receive much publicity.

Hi Matt,

Recently there was a glass block trophy on eBay which said Car of the year, Lotus Europa twincam. I can’t quite remember the organization.

In an 2018 article entitled "Under the Skin of the Lotus Twin cam" (drive-my.com), Mike Kimberley says the Lotus Europa was "nominated for 1972 Best Sports Gt car of the year." He didn't actually say it won.  Maybe that is why it is so hard to find information.
