WTB: Steering wheel hub/adapter or wheel
« on: Tuesday,October 23, 2018, 02:05:34 PM »
I'm looking for either a steering wheel hub or a complete wheel with hub to fit the Europa/Triumph column.  I currently have a Mountney wheel and hub but the wheel is both too big and has cracked through two screw holes.  The easy option is just to buy a smaller Mountney wheel, but I'm not too keen on their looks.  So, I'm searching for either an OEM hub for the Europa (or Elan), a Grant/Momo/Astrali etc hub, or a complete but broken/split etc OEM Europa wheel.  The plan is to build a wheel to suit my taste and size (water jet or laser cut the spokes and go from there, as I have done in the past for other projects).   Again, I could use the existing Mountney hub, but it's too big for my liking.

Does anyone have something that might work?

Thanks,
Rod

I have a stock Europa hub that had bent spokes. I drilled the rivets and tossed the rest. I'll take a pic tomorrow and see if it's what you are looking for. I found a new hub a couple of years ago mounted a nice flat bottom Sparco to it.  Much nicer and easier to get in/out of. I'll look for the brand of hub if you want.

Clifton,
A picture would be great! And if possible the brand of the hub you found.

Cheers,
Rod

I got the hub from here. http://shop.vendio.com/crowderscustomizing/item/2041819695/?s=1333266963

It would be easier to email you the pics then uploaded them to post. If you want, you can pm me.

Lou,
That is a nice wheel and roughly what I'd be attempting to build, I think I should stop being so cheap and just buy one.

Cheers,
Rod

Edit:  I placed an order, thanks for the lead Lou!

This is the 12 inch steering wheel and hub I’m installing in my 72 Europa when I complete the rebuild. It came from one of my Elans. Don’t know who makes it but it’s stamped “made in France”.

Gosh, the one picture with your hand makes that wheel look 6 inches across.   Must have come off a pedal car! :)

Your welcome, I know you will be happy as it is very well made. Another real benefit in the reduced size is the extra knuckle room towards the front windshield and it will be a lot easier getting in and out...

A constant problem is seeing someone I know and taking my hand off the wheel to wave and smashing my hand against the windshield. It looks like I am doing some kind of limp wristed hand spasm gesture. I have a reduced size wheel also, I imagine the problem is worse with the original full size wheel.

Hey Rod, Have you found anything for a steering wheel hub?  Do you know Doug Holbrow?  Last time I was at his place he had a whole bunch of wheel hubs, lots of various models, he might have something for you.  He is out in Abbotsford.

Ross,
I ended up ordering a Luisi wheel.  I had forgotten about Doug, is he still running his parts shop (ex-Ruth at ABC)?
