original colour - body number
« on: Tuesday,April 24, 2018, 03:24:06 AM »
Hello all,

at the weekend I had a dig around for the body number on my S1A to add to the other numbers already known.
I found the number after carefully scraping away layers of thick blue paint, would this be a good area to find the car’s original colour?
It has been many colours over the years, including white (found behind the VIN/chassis plate) and is currently blue. Lotus have no records of the colour when new (at least not for the 46)
However the small indented area immediately surrounding the body number is red so who knows?!

Mine is much later then yours but I found the last 5 digits of the VIN and yellow written with China graph on the central tunnel under the sound proofing.

Regards,

Pete.

Hi Pete,

I’ve not looked elsewhere, who knows what I’ll find?!

I would tend to check the paint color underneath the VIN plate as most indicative of original. At least it is on my S1A having been repainted 3 times.

Why don't you email Andy Graham at Lotus (agraham@lotuscars.com)? He might have the official information.

Hello BDA,

unfortunately, Andy has no record of the colours that the early cars were painted when they left the factory

Normally the original colour is revealed when you take the door cards off, or the headlining down, or the carpets up.

Very few re-sprays would do those parts.

Behind the windscreen rubber is another place.
